Smudges appear in pictures

Is there foreign matter on the image sensor?
Dirt or dust may adhere to the front of the image sensor and affect your pictures. Remove any dust or lint from the front of the image sensor. For information on cleaning the image sensor, see “Caring for the Camera” in the Reference Guide for your camera. Note that the sensor is extremely delicate and easily damaged; we recommend that cleaning be performed only by a Nikon-authorized service representative.
Does the lens need cleaning?
Use a blower to remove fine dust or lint from the front and rear lens surfaces, then wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth. Wiping the lens surface while dust remains on it could scratch the lens surface.
