How to Charge the Battery

Thank you for your purchase of an MH-34 battery charger for Nikon EN-EL15c/EN-EL15b rechargeable Li-ion batteries. Before use, read these instructions and the documentation provided with the MH-34 thoroughly.

What You Need for Charging

You need one of the following to use this product:

We do not guarantee that third-party USB cables are compatible with this product.

Charging with Third-Party USB Type-C and PD (Power Delivery) Compatible AC Adapters

  • You can use third-party AC adapters to charge the camera battery. Use an AC adapter equipped with USB Type-C connectors that supports USB PD (power delivery).
  • Use an AC adapter with a minimum output of 27 W (9 V/3 A).
  • Use a USB cable that has Type-C connectors on both ends to connect to the charger.
  • We do not guarantee that all third-party AC adapters and USB cables will be able to charge the camera battery.

Charging the Battery

You can use an EH-8P AC adapter with a USB cable (featuring Type-C connectors at both ends) or an EH-7P charging AC adapter to charge the battery. The shape of the plug varies with the country or region of purchase.

  1. Connect the EH-7P charging AC adapter or the USB cable (featuring Type-C connectors at both ends) that is connected to the EH-8P AC adapter to the battery charger.

EH-8P: Connect one end of the USB cable (featuring Type-C connectors at both ends) to the EH-8P AC adapter and the other to the charger.

EH-7P: Connect the EH-7P to the charger.

  2. Plug the EH-8P or EH-7P into a household power outlet.

  3. Insert the battery into the charger.

    • Charging begins.
    • Choose a location where the charger will remain stable and free from vibration during use.
    • An exhausted EN-EL15c battery will fully charge in about 2 hours and 30 minutes, and an EN-EL15b battery will charge in about 2 hours and 50 minutes when using the EH-8P.

    • The “CHARGE %” lamp flashes while charging and turns on after charging is complete.
    • There may be a delay of about five seconds before the lamp starts flashing.

    • Battery status is shown by the “CHARGE %” lamp:

      “CHARGE %” lamp Status
Flashes once and turns off, in repetition Charging (less than 50% charged)
Flashes twice and turns off, in repetition Charging (50% charged)
Flashes three times and turns off, in repetition Charging (80% charged)
      Turns on Charging complete
  4. When charging is complete, unplug the EH-8P or EH-7P and disconnect it from the charger.

Caution: Charging EN-EL15a/EN-EL15 Batteries

EN-EL15a and EN-EL15 rechargeable Li-ion batteries are not compatible with MH-34 battery chargers. Be sure to use the MH-25a when charging these batteries via a charger.

If the “CHARGE %” Lamp Flashes Rapidly

If the “CHARGE %” lamp on the charger flashes rapidly (8 times a second):

  • The battery is not inserted correctly: Unplug the charger and remove and reinsert the battery.
  • The ambient temperature is too hot or too cold: Use the battery charger at temperatures within the designated temperature range (0–40 °C/+32–104 °F).

If the problem persists, unplug the charger and end charging. Bring the battery and charger to a Nikon-authorized service representative.
