You can change the flash settings to match the shooting conditions.

Auto flashThe flash fires when necessary, such as in dim lighting.
Flash offThe flash does not fire.
We recommend using a tripod to stabilize the camera when shooting in dark surroundings.

Notes about shooting with the flash

When you use the flash at the wide-angle zoom position, the edge of the image may be dark depending on the shooting distance. This may be improved if you move the zoom control slightly toward the telephoto position.

The flash lamp

The status of the flash can be confirmed by pressing the shutter-release button halfway.

  • On: The flash fires when you press the shutter-release button all the way down.
  • Flashing: The flash is charging. The camera cannot shoot images.
  • Off: The flash does not fire when a picture is taken.

  • The setting may not be changed when using some shooting modes or settings.
