Deleting pictures

Follow the steps below to delete pictures from memory cards. Note that pictures cannot be recovered once deleted. Pictures that are protected, however, cannot be deleted.

Deleting pictures in the i menu

Highlight [f Delete] to delete the current picture.

  1. Select the desired picture with the multi selector and press the A button.
  2. Highlight [f Delete] and press the center of the multi selector.
    • A confirmation dialog will be displayed.
  3. Highlight [Yes] and press the center of the multi selector.
    • The current picture is deleted and the display returns to playback.
    • To exit without deleting the picture, select [No].

Deleting copies

If the picture to be deleted was recorded with two memory cards inserted and an option other than [Overflow] selected for [Secondary slot function] in the photo shooting menu, you will be prompted to choose whether to delete both copies or only the copy on the card in the current slot (Secondary slot function).

Deleting multiple pictures

Use [Delete] in the playback menu to delete multiple pictures at once. Note that depending on the number of pictures, some time may be required for deletion.

  • If two memory cards are inserted, you can select the card from which pictures will be deleted.

Deleting selected pictures

  1. Select pictures.
    • Highlight pictures using the multi selector, and move the zoom control toward − to mark the selected pictures with a check (). To remove the check () from the selected pictures, move the zoom control toward − again.
    • Repeat until all the desired pictures are selected.
    • To view the highlighted picture zoomed in, hold the zoom control at +.
  2. Delete the pictures.
    • Press the center of the multi selector; a confirmation dialog will be displayed.
    • Highlight [Yes] and press the center of the multi selector to delete the selected pictures.

Candidates for deletion

  1. Select pictures.
    • The camera will list all pictures rated d (candidate for deletion). Pictures you do not currently wish to delete can be deselected by highlighting them using the multi selector and moving the zoom control toward −.
    • To view the highlighted picture zoomed in, hold the zoom control at +.
  2. Delete the pictures.
    • Press the center of the multi selector; a confirmation dialog will be displayed.
    • Highlight [Yes] and press the center of the multi selector to delete the selected pictures.

Pictures shot on selected dates

  1. Select dates.
    • Highlight dates using the multi selector, and press the multi selector right to mark selected dates with M icons. To deselect the selected dates, press multi selector right again.
    • Repeat until you have selected all the desired dates.
  2. Delete the pictures.
    • Press the center of the multi selector; a confirmation dialog will be displayed.
    • Highlight [Yes] and press the center of the multi selector to delete all the pictures taken on the selected dates.

Deleting all pictures

  1. Highlight a memory card slot.
    Press the multi selector up or down to highlight the slot containing the memory card from which the pictures will be deleted and press the center of the multi selector.
  2. Delete the pictures.
    • A confirmation dialog will be displayed showing the name of the folder containing the photos to be deleted. Highlight [Yes] and press the center of the multi selector to delete all pictures from the folder. The folder is that previously selected via [Playback folder] in the playback menu.
    • Note that depending on the number of pictures, some time may be required for deletion.
